Zikomo Bags
'Zikomo' means 'Thank You' in Chichewa, a language spoken in Malawi, the place where this story begins. The project is situated in a densely populated area known as Chinsapo in the district of Lilongwe, Malawi's capital city. Within Chinsapo, lies a place known as the Rainbow Centre for HIV/AIDS Home Based Care. Here at the Centre, Zikomo Bags functions as an income generating project, whereby volunteers at the Centre are creating fashionable items, known as Zikomo Bags.
These bags are created at the Centre using traditional chitenge materials purchased at the local market. These bags have been brought to Canada to not only share a story, but hopefully improve the lives of volunteers and clients of the Centre.
Feel free to browse this site to learn more about the Centre and the benefits of this project.
